Submission Policy

The Dyke welcomes original, high-quality research contributions that align with the journal’s interdisciplinary scope. Submissions are accepted on a rolling basis and are subject to a rigorous double-blind peer review process. All authors must comply with the following submission requirements:

Article Types

The journal accepts the following types of contributions:

  • Original Research Articles
  • Review Articles
  • Short Communications

  • Methodological Papers
  • Opinion and Perspective Pieces

The Dyke is especially interested in scholarship that integrates theories, methods, and perspectives from multiple disciplines. Contributions employing novel methodologies or offering unconventional insights are strongly encouraged. The journal prioritises rigorous research from scholars based in Africa and the diaspora, particularly work addressing pressing societal challenges. Manuscripts with implications for public policy, sustainable development, or community engagement, especially in the Southern African context, are especially welcomed.

Submission Requirements

Originality and Exclusivity
Manuscripts must be original and not under consideration elsewhere. Any exceptions must be disclosed in the "Comments to the Editor" section during submission.

File Format
Submissions must be in Microsoft Word (.doc or .docx), OpenOffice (.odt), or Rich Text Format (.rtf).

Formatting Guidelines

  • Use single spacing and a standard 12-point font (e.g. Arial).
  • Italics should be used for emphasis; underlining should be reserved for URLs.
  • Tables, figures, and illustrations should be placed within the text at appropriate points—not at the end.
  • Include active URLs in references where available.

Referencing and Style
Submissions must conform to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in The Dyke’s Author Guidelines.

Ethical Standards
Research involving human participants or sensitive data must meet recognised ethical standards. Relevant disclosures or approvals must be included.

Plagiarism Policy
All manuscripts are screened for plagiarism. Submissions with uncredited content or improper citation will be rejected immediately.
